We are so lucky to live in a region where wine production is growing in popularity. Also lucky for us is that many of those producers are really good!
Okay so I know it must seem like we drink a lot with all my wino posts. The past few months we’ve just had quite a few wine events and trips that have been so much fun! However, we don’t drink much during the week if at all so are okay with splurging a bit on the weekends. Plus until I’m preggers I’m going to enjoy it while I can 🙂
It just so happens we got to enjoy another fun wine trip this past weekend in Napa. So I’m joining Katie and sharing a bit about our marvelous weekend getaway!
Before we had The Love Nugget, The Hubby and I enjoyed going on vacation. Whether it was a quick trip to Tahoe or a much longer vacation to Mexico we enjoyed our time experiencing the world together.
Hope you all had a Marvelous weekend! I mentioned Friday that I was feeling a bit under the weather but luckily kicked my cold to the curb in just a few days by drinking tons of bone broth and taking some natural immune supplements. By Saturday morning I was feeling just about back to normal!
Which was perfect because we had a fun day planned and I did not want to miss it!
Disclaimer – I participated in this campaign through Mom it Forward and was compensated for this post by Gallo Family Vineyards.
I think one of the first wines I ever tasted was a Gallo Family wine. My mom usually had a bottle in the fridge and I used to sneak little sips here and there. I know, such a rebel!
Memories of my mom pouring a glass of Burgundy for herself at dinner sparked in my mind when I my bottle of Gallo Burgundy arrived in honor of their Hearty Burgundy turning 50.
Gallo has released this limited edition Hearty Burgundy which offers a blend of dark berry and red plum flavors with hints of oak.
Good morning and happy Wednesday!
Since we just got home yesterday from Sonoma, it really feels like Monday today. I’ll take a Wednesday though! One more day closer to the weekend 🙂
If you’ve never been to Sonoma and ever have the chance to go I highly recommend it. It’s an adorable little town west of Napa with cute shops, good food and amazing wine!
Quick pic on bike ride, gorgeous!
Updated post from my wine swap party a few months ago 🙂
I was a little tired today after the wine swap party last night. Stayed up way past my bedtime. 11:00, I’m so old! I saw a pin a few months ago on Pinterest for a wine swap party. It was on my summer bucket list but with busy schedules and what not I just now got around to hosting it. I sent out invites a few weeks ago telling everyone to bring two bottles of the same wine, an appetizer that goes with the wine and the recipe for the appetizer on a recipe card.
I made an apple, walnut and gorgonzola crostata from my Giada cookbook that is always a hit. The only problem, it was a long recipe so I had to use three cards and tie them together. At least it looked cute!
I set up the table with a simple center piece using three different sized wine glasses, fake flowers and candles. I wanted to get fresh flowers but just didn’t have time. Good thing I had these ones on hand for the bridal shower next weekend.
I added a few smaller candles around as well.
I have these neat wine glass pens so I wrote everyone’s name on their glass. I liked it so much more than the wine charms.
Also at each place setting was a wine tasting card where we could keep track of the wine name, winery, vintage, rating and any other comments.
The completed table setting looks as if it was crowded but it wasn’t.
I set up a separate table for the appetizers and recipe cards along with some zinfandel cupcakes I made.
Gorgonzola, apple and walnut crostata
I had one more table that I used for the wine, water and some little party favors I put together.
The gift bags included just a few goodies for the girls to take home
We had a great group of girls and tasted six different wines and lots of yummy appetizers.
As it got darker I quit taking pictures of the food so just a few shots.
Cucumbers stuffed with spicy crab mix
Mediterranean hummus with cream cheese
It just so happened that we each brought a different type of wine to try so we didn’t have doubles of any varietal.
After sampling each wine, we drew numbers out of a box to see who would get to choose their wine first. If you were number 1 (which was me), you picked what wine you wanted but someone else could steal if from you. I chose a Semillion that I really liked and was happy that no one stole it from me!
Everyone had such a fun time and like I said we stayed up much later than normal just talking, drinking wine and hanging out. Such a fun girls night! We even discussed making it a monthly get together. Can’t wait for the next one!
So as you’re waking up, having your cup of coffee and browsing the web, I’m on my way to Sonoma for a wine retreat! Don’t be jealous 🙂 Through Fit Approach (Sweat Pink), I received and email about an event that was going on this Saturday. Sonoma is just an hour and a half away and is wine country central! It’s also an adorable little town with lots of fun shops and restaurants. Fit Approach and Lynda at Fitness Mom Wine Country are putting on a day of fitness fun, food and relaxation. I thought it sounded like lots of fun and much needed for a mom like me so I signed up! My friend is joining me as well and we decided to stay over so we could enjoy a little moms getaway 🙂
The hubby will be home with The Love Nugget having a boys weekend. He was looking forward to spending the day with him. Such a good day!
