Happy Wednesday!

Hope you’re all having a great week so far!

Life with a newborn has been an adjustment from the way life used to be.  On most days before Little Squish, I was able to make us a full breakfast, pack snacks to go do whatever we needed to do, come home to make a full lunch, and then cook a full dinner most nights.

Now most my time is spent holding the baby, nursing the baby, and changing the baby.  What time I’m not spending on those things, I’m trying to spend on The Love Nugget.  Which leaves me with very little time to cook meals like I used to.  So now more than ever meal prep is so essential for me.  I’ve been making sure to spend a little time over the weekends to prep some food for the week.  It helps SO much when I have something I can quickly grab and eat immediately or re-heat and eat.

Whole 30 Recap and Moving Forward

Hi guys!

So I’m a little late with my Whole 30 recap since I actually finished over a week ago but figured I’d still check in and share with you how it went.  First off if you’d like to read my recap from my first Whole30 you can find it here along with several other Whole 30 posts.  When I started this round of the Whole 30, I did so with one main goal.  Get my period back.  I also wanted to lose the brain fog, gain some energy, and hopefully lose a few of the holiday pounds I had gained.  Some of those things happened during the 25 days I did the program but a few did not…

What Happened –

1. I got my period back!  That was my biggest goal for doing the Whole 30 so that was AWESOME!

2. I lost the belly bloat.  Woo hoo!  I actually lost an inch around my hips, waist and 1/2 an inch around my thighs.  Not too shabby 🙂

3. I had more energy and less brain fog.  This very well could be attributed to my HCG levels decreasing throughout the month from my miscarriage but I know a good amount of it is from the Whole 30 🙂

4. I experienced less muscle soreness (inflammation).  I started lifting more than I had been doing and expected to be pretty sore.  However, I wasn’t!  I would feel a little tightness here and there but nothing like I have in the past.  Even after TONS of burpees, squats and push-ups I felt great! Date night, Whole 30 Dinner Fail and MTHFR

Morning friends!

It’s Saturday yet I’ve been up since 5:00am… Why?  A little someone wiggled his way into our bed this morning and continued to toss and turn.  Keeping me wide awake.  I finally just got up to get some work done.  At least he stayed in bed and I’m getting some quiet time.  This time is actually one of my favorite times of day.  I know many people would much rather sleep in until 8:00 or later especially on the weekends.  I don’t mind getting up early to a quiet house, sitting down with a cup of coffee and having some alone time to read, work, or plan the day ahead.

This morning while I’m enjoying my cup of coffee and alone time, I’m delving into medical research on the MTHFR gene mutation.  Why?  As I mentioned last week I had an appointment with my doctor to review some recent testing I had done.  While all our chromosomal testing came back fine (phew!), I tested positive for the MTHFR gene mutation.  Don’t know what that is?  You’re not alone.  Many people have never heard of MTHFR and it actually wasn’t until recently that testing for it in correlation with miscarriage.

Whole 30 (#2) Week One Recap and Week 2 Meal Plan

Whole 30 (#2) Week One Recap and Week 2 Meal Plan

Technically Week one is over tomorrow but I figured I’d share today in case you need some meal ideas 🙂

As most of you know I did a full 30 days of the Whole 30 back in October 2013.    Since then I’ve given it a go a few times but was never fully committed.  I would tell myself I’d do it but that I could still have wine.  Or give myself free passes which just didn’t work out well.  This time I’m 100% committed (except for one day which I’ll talk about below).  I know that at the end of the 30 days (it will actually be 25 days for us which I’ll get into below) I will feel better, hopefully shed a few of the extra pounds I’ve got going on and (fingers crossed) get my cycle back on track.  Which is exactly what happened when I finished the first time.   I think with this program (and many things in life) if you’re not truly committed your more likely to fail.   With my head fully in it this time I notice everything is so much easier!

Although I’ll admit the snack monster is still coming out not nearly as bad as it once was.  I’ve also had some sugar cravings here and there but typically nothing a mug of rooibos, cup of kombucha or spoonful of coconut butter can’t fix!  If you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably been seeing my meal posts but just the same I’m sharing them all today 🙂

What I ate Wednesday, Whole30 Addition

Happy Wednesday folks!

It’s my third day of the Whole 30 and I’m loving it so far!   I was telling a friend yesterday that it’s so much easier for me to do these 30 days during fall or winter.  For one because there isn’t as much fresh fruits which I crave endlessly and two because of the abundance of whole 30 comfort food recipes.  So good!  Although I’m only on day 3 I foresee this month being fairly easy for me to stick with it.   If you’re doing it as well, hopefully it is for you too!

Anyway, if you follow me on Instagram you’ve been seeing my meal posts.  If not you should!  Regardless, I’m linking up with Jenn today to share my Whole30 eats from yesterday 🙂

Starting the New Year off Fresh with the Whole30!

Starting the New Year off Fresh with the Whole30!

Happy New Year!

How is it January!?!  So crazy but to be honest, I’m so ready for a New Year.  If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you’ve probably noticed this hasn’t been the best year for us.  Pregnancy losses, house floods, hotel living… Needless to say we are ready for the New Year!

To kick off this year I’m taking a step towards better health.  A few years back when I did the Whole 30 I never felt better!  I was sleeping better, had more energy, less sugar cravings, clearer skin, healthier nails and most importantly, my menstrual cycle came back.  So I’m jumping in for another round and would love for you to join me

Bacon Apple Pork Chops

Like beef, I didn’t eat pork until recently.  Well, I take that back.  At Easter and Christmas I would have a slice of the ham for dinner.  With a husband who wasn’t a big pork fan (besides bacon) we never really had it in our house.  A former turkey bacon fan, I switched to normal bacon a few months ago.   Mainly because of how processed Turkey bacon is and the amount of preservatives added.  I didn’t love it and still have a hard time eating it plain but it’s good.  Then I made some pulled pork and actually liked it!  I wanted to branch out even more and saw so many people enjoying pork chops that I decided to give it a try.
