When we decided to move to Lincoln I was a little worried about a few things.

1. I would be a little further away from friends and family.

2. We’d be further from my favorite grocery store, Whole Foods.

3. We’d be further from the mall.  In other words, clothes shopping.

We soon discovered we weren’t all that far from friends or family.  That Whole Foods wasn’t really that far away and we are in the area so much that it’s easy to stop in whenever I need to.  Finally I discovered there’s an awesome boutique that’s better than most stores in the mall called Bayabelle Boutique.

Yesterday I was supposed to go meet my mom to pick up The Love Nugget.  However, he decided he really wanted to stay another day to play with his cousins and since he doesn’t get to see them that often I agreed.  I miss him but am so glad that he is having a fun time with his Grammie and cousins!

So I had a whole day to myself!   What to do what to do…

It’s funny I have TONS on my to-do list and lots of stuff I wanted to do but… I didn’t get it all done.  Mainly because my back was killing me.  Ugh, will it ever get better!?!  I did get a chance to make a few phone calls one of which was to a massage therapist (apt. Friday) and one to the Bowen Method.  Have you heard of it?  The Hubby went awhile back when he injured his back and said it helped a lot so I”m going to give it a try.  Fingers crossed it helps!

Other than resting I did manage to make it to the grocery store, get some food prep done, cleaned the house and organized both my and The Love Nugget’s dressers.  So that was good.

Grocery shopping meant a stop at Costco where I was yet again impressed with their Paleo friendly options.

Good morning!

Despite The Love Nugget being a bit under the weather this past weekend, we still had a pretty good one!  Luckily he’s got a fairly strong immune system and seems to kick his sickness’ pretty quickly.  That and he’s a tough little man!

Holy cow it’s December 1st!

I’m so glad it’s here but not 100% prepared for all it entails.  Don’t get me wrong I love christmas but trying to coordinate with all our families can be a little bit stressful to say the least.  We usually celebrate at 5 different locations over the span of a few days to a week.  Luckily most everyone is pretty flexible but it is always a task trying to figure out when we’ll be where etc.  We will however, be waking up at our own house on Christmas day now that we have the Love Nugget.  I always remember traveling when I was younger and being so confused how Santa was going to find me.  So we’re going to try to hold on to that part of Christmas for as long as we can.

Along with trying to plan Christmas’ with family yesterday, the Love Nugget and I had a rainy, but fun day.  As I mentioned yesterday, the hubby and I decorated for Christmas while the Love Nugget was sleeping.  So we were really excited to see his reaction when he got up in the morning.  He was really cute when he came down stairs and ran over to his Christmas tree saying (in his little Love Nugget voice) “tismas tee, tismas tee!”


He then proceeded to run around the house looking at all the decorations we had put up saying, “wow!” and “ooh..”  So much fun seeing Christmas through his eyes and it’s barely begun!

Yesterday, was excited to find a package sitting on my doorstep when I woke up yesterday.  I ordered my second box of organic produce from Farm Fresh To You.  My first box came a few weeks ago and was a mixture of fruit and vegetables.  This week the fruit that was planned to be shipped was mandarins and apples which we had a ton of.  So I changed my order to be veggies only.  Man, there were a ton of veggies in this box!

Beets, kale, carrots, bok choy, red leaf lettuce, acorn squash, spinach, broccoli and this funky thing…

I forget what it was listed as and I accidentally threw away the information sheet.  Oops!  I think it’s something similar to cauliflower?  I bought some hummus today so I’m going to cut it up and give it a try.

We ate a yummy breakfast, scrambled eggs with ketchup, toast, and yogurt for him and this yummy scramble for me!

I used this yummy kale salad mix that was really good!  I found it at Costco and it’s similar to a cole slaw but way better for you with kale, Brussel sprouts (which I normally hate but they were raw and sliced thin), broccoli and cabbage.  It’s pretty good and the hubby even likes it!

Then we cleaned up and got ready to go to Skyzone with some friends.  Skyzone is an indoor trampoline place that has a large room made up of trampolines and padding.  On Friday’s they block off a set time for toddlers so we decided to go check it out.  The Love Nugget thought it was pretty cool!  He’s so funny because while he can be super clinging, he will also just run off and play by himself without worrying too much about where I am.
He loved the toddler friendly music they were playing and when his favorite Mickey Mouse tune came on he broke down into a little dance.  Too funny!

I had hoped to hop on the elliptical while he was napping but that didn’t happen.  For one he didn’t really want to nap and two I kept getting side tracked with crafts, cleaning and putting laundry away.

When he woke up we did  a little water-color painting.


He thought it was a lot of fun!


For me however, it was taking all my will power not to hold his hand while he dipped the brush into the water, then the paint.  He was mixing the colors and the control side of me was freaking out a little!  However, I just kept thinking, “the paint was $3.00.  I can buy another if it gets ruined.  What’s really important is he’s having fun!”


Besides painting, the Love Nugget spent a lot of time playing with his “tismis tee” (Christmas tree).  This was such a simple project and is so far a hit!

1 yard of green felt

1 8×10 sheet of desired ornament colors (red, yellow, blue, white, brown)

* The thick, firm felt sticks better to the tree than the thinner sheets.

hot glue gun (if making light bulb ornaments with yellow tops)

Double sided tape to stick to the wall

1 tack to secure the tree in place

Fold the green felt in half “hot dog style”  (my second graders used to love that!)  Draw half of your Christmas tree to the desired size you would like it.

Cut out your tree then using your colored sheets cut out desired shapes of ornaments.  You can also add presents which I might do later.  Secure the tree by tacking the top to the wall then using double-sided tape to secure each branch.  You’re little one will love decorating their own tree!

This morning I got up early to get in a workout before heading out to run some errands.  I had been anticipating the Neiman Marcus Target partnership that was starting today!  In case you haven’t heard, Target partnered with Neiman Marcus and will be selling items from 30 major designers during the month of December.  I had been eying this dress for the hubby’s company Christmas party,

After what happened when Target brought in Missoni for a short time (chaos and almost everything was sold out immediately) I figured this line would be gone fast too.

So I got up early and checked online before my workout.  They had both these items so I ordered them but still made my way to the store to see them in person.  I SO wanted to love them…. but I didn’t 🙁  The purse was canvas which would get dirty quickly and the dress was a hot mess.  Well, let me explain.  I’m 5’10” and have a very small upper body frame (meaning, I have no boobs).  So the only size that would fit snug around my waist and rib cage was a size 2.  Well, unless I wanted everyone to get a nice showing of my behind, it wasn’t going to work.  Bummer!

I did manage to get the Love Nugget an advent calendar finally.

It’s pretty plain and the boxes are quite small but I bought a bunch of stickers to put in them and maybe I’ll add in a few of the graham crackers I made him.  I also went to Trader Joe’s to stock up on groceries.  Glad I got that out-of-the-way early this morning 🙂

We have a birthday party to go to at 2:00 then dinner at a friends.  So, off to get some chores done before it’s time to go!

Fitness Friday #14 + Tabata What?

Do you ever have a day where you just feel the need to shop?  Who am I kidding?  Of coarse you do!  Well, unless you hate shopping which I’m sure not too many of you do!  Yesterday was one of those days for me.  I had a return to make at the mall so the Love Nugget and I made our way in the morning.  We got there a little before the stores opened so he could run around in the play area.  Which he loved!

I had planned on just going to two places real quick…. which turned into 2 1/2 hours.  While I was in the mood to shop.  I wasn’t really in the mood to try much on but still came home with a few things.

I can’t remember the last time I went into Forever 21 but popped in yesterday just to check out their sweaters.  Glad I did because I walked out with three cozy sweaters and a necklace for under $70!  Not bad!  I also went to Nordstrom to shop their half-yearly sale and get the hubby his face lotion.  Funny, I used to use their moisturizer but switched because it didn’t have any sunscreen.  However, their mens line has sunscreen and is the exact same moisturizer as the womens just in a different bottle.  So, I bought myself some too!  I also got their free gift for spending over $28.

It always puts me in a better mood when I go shopping and actually find stuff I like 🙂

After our fun shopping event and the Love Nugget had a good nap, we did a little painting.

He loved it until he decided to taste it…

Maybe someday he’ll learn to listen to me 🙂

Okay, on to Fitness Friday!

This week was my first week without my daily Fitmixer Boot camp emails 🙁  However, I still have access to all the workouts so I’m just starting over.  Here’s what this week looked like for exercise.

Saturday – Rest

Sunday – Rest

Monday – 4 mile run outdoors (felt so good!) + Blonde Ponytails Hard Core Workout

This core workout was awesome!  If you haven’t checked out her blog make sure you give it a look.  Not only is she gorgeous, she is SUPER fit and posts lots of great workouts.

Tuesday – Fitmixer boot camp workout Iso Slow and Controlled

Wednesday – Cycle class + Fitmixer Boot camp workout Tabata

Thursday – 45 minute at home yoga video

Friday – Fitmixer boot camp workout Full House + 5 mile run on the treadmill

Since this week included a Tabata workout, I wanted to talk a little bit about Tabata training.  You may have heard about this quick, calorie burning workout by now and maybe have even given it a try.  It’s growing in popularity and is a great way to get in some exercise when your short on time.  However there’s a few things you should know about it before giving it a go.

First, what is Tabata training?

Tabata is a fast cardio workout that was designed by a Japanese scientist named Izumi Tabata and fellow colleagues at a department of physiology in Japan.  They conducted studies on two groups one using moderate interval training for 5 days a week for 6 weeks and an hour a day.  The second group did high intensity workouts 4 days a week for 6 weeks and only a total of 4 minutes a day.  The second group showed more improvement in their cardiovascular system as well as their muscle growth.  Source

That’s pretty amazing since their workouts were 4 minutes long!

Second, what does it look like?

Any exercise can be incorporated into the Tabata training. However the basic outline of the Tabata training method are as follows:
•     4 minutes long (whole Tabata Session)
•     20 seconds of intense training
•     10 seconds of rest
•     Total of 8 sessions or rounds

Like mentioned above you can do Tabata with any form of exercise and can be done almost anywhere.  There is a great app on the iphone called Gymboss trainer which has a Tabata timer.  There are also specific Tabata timers to purchase but the app is free and works great!

Here are a few Tabata workouts I’ve done,

Treadmill – 8.0 incline 9.5 speed, 20 seconds on 10 seconds off for 4 minutes

Elliptical – 10.0 incline 10.0 speed, 20 seconds on 10 seconds off for 4 minutes (every elliptical is different so this could vary based on the machine)

Circuit – Burpees, high knees, jumping jacks, plyo lunges.  20 seconds exercise 10 second rest between.

Third, who should try Tabata? 

As you can see Tabata training is a very quick workout.  So most people want to jump on board right away.  However, Tabata training requires you to push yourself as hard as you can in order to reach a very high intensity.  This being said, Tabata training is not for everyone.  You should already be at an intermediate to advanced level if you want to give Tabata training a go.  If you are a beginner, start out slow doing interval type workouts at a much slower pace and level.  Source   Keep in mind there are a lot of “Tabata” workouts out there but a true Tabata style workout follows these guidelines.

As with any form of exercise you should check with your health care provider before beginning something new to you.  You should also include a good warm up, cool down and make sure to keep yourself hydrated.  Make sure to listen to your body.  if you feel faint, or in pain, stop!  While it might sound like an easy way to get in a quick workout, it can be very intense when done correctly and really pushes your body to its max so be safe!
