Can you believe it’s almost Halloween?

I feel like this month has flown by.  So much so that I haven’t had much time to make fun Halloween themed crafts and recipes like I love to do.

I think it’s been hard to get in the mood to make much fall/Halloween things since up until this past week it’s been pretty warm out still.  So the other day I decided to embrace the heat while enjoying a Halloween themed snack in the form of a Smoothie!

Good morning and happy hump day!

It’s crazy how much faster the week goes now that The Love Nugget is in school. Which by the way he is still loving and doing great at 🙂

The hard part about him starting school has been the little wrench it’s thrown in our schedule. Before I was able to go to the gym for Crossfit a few days a week at 8:30. They only offer a few classes each day with the two mornings times being at 5:30 am then 8:30 am. Since The Hubby typically goes to his Crossfit box for the 5:30 am class I was going to the 8:30am class. The evenings just don’t work as we are usually busy and I have to get dinner done etc. Anyway, The Love Nugget’s school starts at 8:45 which means I’m not able to make the 8:30 class. I was planning to go Mon, Wed, or Friday but we’ve had something going on pretty much every day during the 8:30 time slot. So I’ve been doing at home workouts, gym workouts (minus cross fit) and of course, running!

In preparation for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon of course 🙂

If you missed it, I shared with you all how I have the opportunity to run the Nike half in San Francisco with Whole Foods.  An opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

I’ve been very careful about not overdoing it and fueling my body properly before and after my runs.

Yesterday the hubby was home so I took advantage and headed outdoors for an early morning long run.

Favorite Fall Recipes

Holy cow it’s already Thursday!  Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as happy as the next person to welcome any day closer to the weekend but this week is literally flying by!  I think part of it is that every day we have been very busy.  Yesterday zipped by since it was spent in the Bay visiting my Grandpa at the hospital.  He has actually been moved to a rehabilitation center and is doing much better but has a long way to go.  Thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers as they seem to be helping!

Okay so now that it is officially fall I figured it was okay to post some of my favorite fall recipes.  Although i’ll admit I jumped on board the pumpkin wagon as soon as Starbucks released their Pumpkin Spice Latte a few weeks ago.  We’ve already been pretty pumpkin crazy in our house lately but pumpkin isn’t the only food I look forward to this time of year.  I love apples, butternut squash, kale, spinach, pears… yum!

Hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July!  We actually had a really nice and mellow day which was perfect!

I started the day with a great workout from GPP at the gym then came home to shower, get the days blog post up and make a quick smoothie before heading out the door.

WIAW – Under the weather with Picky Bar Review!

You’re probably reading this post title going, “really?  Wasn’t she just sick?”  Yep, two weeks ago I had the stomach flu and it hung on for over a week.  So I enjoyed one whole week where I felt good.  So much fun!  I’m incredibly annoyed it’s not even funny!  I’m not sure what’s up this time.  Went to bed last night with a slight sore throat but felt fine otherwise.  Woke up around 2:00 am with severe stomach pains that continued to wake me up throughout the night.  It continued throughout the morning and my glands were a bit swollen and sore.  No sore throat though.  I felt better a little later on but still had stomach pains.  Luckily today so far I’m feeling okay and somewhat normal.  I’d say it was something I ate but I don’t think  that would really cause my glands to swell, a slight fever and a headache?  I’m thinking its some sort of virus that will work it’s way out of my body hopefully by this weekend.  More than anything I’m frustrated and starting to wonder if there’s something more I need to be doing or less for that matter.  I cut back on my fitness but maybe it’s not enough.  I eat very healthy so I quit taking my multivitamin since I felt like was getting what I needed through my diet.  Maybe I need to add it back in?

Anyway, sorry to be a downer once again.  I promise despite my feeling blah I will try to keep it off the blog as much as possible 🙂  With that said, I’m still joining in with Jenn at Peas and Crayons for WIAW!

Strawberries and Cream Green Smoothie

Strawberries and Cream Green Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 cups spinach, kale, chard or other greens (I used both spinach and baby kale)
  • 1/3 cup greek yogurt
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Sunwarrior Vegan Protein Powder)
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients together then serve in a bowl topped with granola or in a glass. Enjoy!
