Three cool things


So I’ve got three cool things to share with you today.  When I saw cool I mean, really cool!

First, you may have noticed a snazzy new button on the right side of my page that says “sweat pink.”  Well, a few weeks ago I was selected by Fit approach to be a sweat pink ambassador!  Pretty cool!  Fit approach is an amazing website and group of women who dedicated to being active and a wonderful inspiration to get moving!

Here’s their mission statement to give you a better idea of what they stand for.


We believe that kicking ass is best done in pretty shoes. We’ve learned that real women sweat, and sweat hard. We know that assertiveness, strength, and ambition are the ultimate feminine qualities. Cookie or cake? Cookie’s for sure! 

Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate, dark chocolate is one of my favorite things

What is your favorite sweet treat? Hmmm… I love freshly baked cookies but am a sucker for dark chocolate.  Lately though my favorite sweet treat is non-fat greek yogurt mixed with a little Maple Almond Butter eaten with apples.  I had it for dinner the other night when the hubby was working late.  Love it!

When do you crave sweet things the most? Pretty much all day but I almost have to have a little something sweet every night after dinner.

If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be?  I guess the hubby calls me honey sometimes but not that often.  We stick with the basic, “babe.”  I know, original.

Last pretty cool thing (at least to us), is how much the Love Nugget is talking lately.

He is really starting to repeat exact words that we say or that he hears others say.  He is obsessed with the letter I right now and whenever he see’s it he shouts out, “I, i!”  It’s cute.  He also loves to say robot, light, tractor and of coarse dadda.  It’s funny how he will say all these words he has heard just a few times but he still doesn’t say mamma that much.  I guess I should enjoy it while I can since I’m sure he’ll be overusing it soon enough 🙂

Hey there!

So it’s Tuesday and when I sat down to type up todays post I couldn’t decide what I wanted to write.  I’ve got some yummy recipes to share, a few product reviews and giveaways to post along with lots of health information but wasn’t in the mood to type any of it.  I wanted to do something a little different and came across this survey called True or False.

So here we go!

I take a daily vitamin:  True

I talked a little about what vitamins I take daily here.  However, I’ve switched my calcium pill to a calcium chew.  Much tastier 🙂  

I have too many credit cards:  False

Not anymore… when I was in college, I racked up quite a few credit cards.  As most college students do.  After the hubby and I got married, we paid them all off and got rid of all but just a few for rewards/miles and emergencies.  

I have painted my bedroom:  False

I just realized our bedroom and bathroom are the only rooms in our house that we haven’t painted yet!  We have talked about it but are also planning on moving within a year so not sure we want to put forth the time and money right now.  We’ll see though, I’m always up for decorating!  

I have worn hand-me-down clothes:  True

Well, not so much hand-me-downs from other people but I have bought second-hand clothing before.  I often take my old clothes into Crossroads Trading Co. where you can sell or trade your clothes for their new or used clothing.  They have designer duds as well as trendy new styles.  

I have broken a bone:  False

Not that I am aware of.  Although I’ve had my fair share of dislocated fingers and a pretty bad toe incident a few years ago but nothing that needed a cast 🙂  Knock on wood!  

I play video games:  False

I mean, I have played video games but we do not own one now so I don’t currently play them.  When I was pregnant I did go through a little Angry Birds addiction but that faded pretty quickly.  The hubby and I would much rather play a board game than video games and plan to keep them out of our house as long as we can.  

I have been in a submarine:  False

This is a weird question.  I mean, how many people go in submarines?  

I have been to Disneyland: False

My husband always gets so mad at me when I say I haven’t been to Disneyland.  It’s true, I haven’t but I have gone to Disneyworld which he says is better so I’m not allowed to say I’ve never been to Disneyland.  Which technically I haven’t but I guess I see his point.  We want to take the Love Nugget sometime next year.  He loves Mickey Mouse!

I am an aunt/uncle:  True

My brother has two kids a boy and a girl.  My other brother has none but is getting married in two weeks!  The hubby’s two sisters are neither married, nor have kids.  Maybe someday 🙂  

I have a scar on my knee:  True

Now I have one on both knees 🙁  When I was about 10 I was riding my bike on our gravel road and fell off.  My knee was cut pretty deep but I refused to go to the hospital for stitches.  Not really sure why my mom allowed that but at the time I was grateful.  Now, with the ugly scar, not so much.  I have a scar on my other knee now from having a mole removed.  It actually ended up being a large cut with 7 stitches and I wasn’t very good about resting which stretched the wound.  Listen to the doctor folks and rest when they say too!    

I text more than I call people:  True

The hubby and I were just talking about how neither of us are really talk on the phone people.  Not sure why but I’d rather just send a quick message than talk on the phone.  Although I do love catching up with friends over the phone.  

I have been a bridesmaid/groomsmen:  True

I’ve been a bridesmaid three times all of which I was the maid of honor.  Once in a high school friends wedding, once in my dearest college friends wedding and once in my best childhood friends wedding.  All were a blast!  

I am married:  True

To my best friend 🙂  

I have had a surprise birthday party:  True… sort of

The year the hubby had his snowboarding accident, he surprised me with a fun girls wine tasting day.  My birthday was about a month after his accident and he was unable to drink at all.  There was a wine tasting event that we usually went to for my birthday and I was a little bummed we weren’t going.  So instead I invited some friends to come down for dinner and shopping the next day. Little did I know that the hubby bought us all tickets to the event, then surprised me with them after we returned from dinner.  It was such a nice surprise after dealing with so much stress from the accident and I had a super fun, relaxing day with my friends.  

I drink coffee:True

Love the stuff!  I even drank decaf when I was pregnant.  Something about a warm cup of coffee to start my day is so enjoyable!

Now you know a little more about me 🙂

Yesterday the Love Nugget and I went and met a friend at the park for a play date.  He loves this particular park and it is built for toddlers so it’s super safe and I don’t have to follow him everywhere he goes.

Then we went inside to the Library right by the park.  I’m not sure why but I didn’t have a library card yet.  So I signed up and we checked out some books.  The Love Nugget is a huge book-worm.  He was so excited to have new books to read and kept bringing them to me over and over again to read to him.

When the hubby got home I went to spin class with my favorite instructor.  Always such a great class!  I wore my newest fitness accessory that I have been loving lately!

I HATE when my hair is in my face, falls out of my rubber band, or my headband slips off.  I have a weird shaped head so I have a hard time finding head bands that stay on and do their job.  I was excited when I heard about Sweatybands and their amazing staying powers.   They were so nice to send me one to try out and I LOVE it!  The first time I wore my band, I had washed my hair the night before and that always results in my hair slipping out and my head band falling off.  Not today!  My hair did fall out of my rubber band but the Sweatyband remained in place keeping my hair out of my face.  I did not once have to touch the band to put it back in at all!  Amazing!

What I’m loving


I usually link up for WIAW but have been really bad with snapping photos lately so I don’t have much to share.  Instead, I thought I would steal a post idea from Katie at Healthy Diva Eats and do a What I’m Loving Wednesday post!

It’s fall, but the past few days it’s reached 100 degrees.  Seriously!?!  With the hot weather, it’s been hard to get into fall mode.  No boots yet, no midday mugs of tea, and no warm pumpkin oatmeal in the morning yet.  Boo.  However, I’ve been trying to squeeze in some fall things where I can because let’s face it, everything about fall is just awesome!

Here’s a few fall things I’ve been loving lately.

My fall table setting.  Even though I’ve been using the same one for the past few years.  I still love it!  Well, I’m a little over the placemats and runner but I love the fall foliage, candles and gourds!

My fall candles.  I’ve got a ton but Autumn is one of my favorites!  I’m loving this little guy that I’ve been using a lot more lately.

Scented oils are just so strong so I have to make sure to dilute it with a little water.  I love this little owl oil burner!

I’ve also been loving this product that came in the mail the other day.

Awhile back Quest generously sent me a box of their yummy protein bars.  I instantly became obsessed with the delicious flavor and amazing nutrition facts.  The company has recently come out with a new Crave line of healthy snacks and sent me a sample to try.  This Chocolate Crunch Bar has 200 calories, no sugar, and 20 grams of protein!  Wow!  That’s a lot of protein!  Unfortunately the box sat outside on our doorstep all day in the heat so they melted and I think it altered the texture a little once they hardened back up.  They are pretty dry and hard to eat now which is kind of a bummer.  However, they taste good and I’ve found a few other ways to enjoy them.  One of which is crumbled on top of a fruit and yogurt bowl!

I heard that they are also coming out with a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup which I am dying to try!  Chocolate and Peanut Butter, yes please!

One last thing I’m loving right now waking up feeling so blessed every day.  I love my little family and am really enjoying every minute I get to spend with my Love Nugget.  He is turning into quite the little man and developing such a fun-loving, happy, energetic personality which is a joy to be around.  How can I not love everyday with this adorable face!?!

Two yummy recipes and a giveaway!


Have I got a great recipe for you today!  Well, I’ve actually got a few from the past few days but rather than overload you, I’ll focus on one at a time.  Okay maybe two. 🙂 First though, how’s your day going?  Great here!  To begin with, the Love Nugget slept in until 7:20 which meant I got to have a little quite time before he got up.  Not much since I slept in until 6:45!  I’ve been so exhausted lately from chasing our little guy around all day.  I barely get any reading at night done anymore!

Once he was up we started on breakfast.  Here’s where the yummy recipe comes in 🙂  I was planning on taking two classes at the gym so I knew I needed to fuel my body with something this morning.  However, nothing was really sounding that great and after my cup and a half of coffee, I wasn’t that hungry.  I was about to eat a Cinnamon Roll Quest Bar when the idea for a new smoothie recipe popped came to mind…

Oatmeal Cookie Green Smoothie

1 large handful of organic spinach

1/2 a frozen banana

1/4 cup old-fashioned oats

1 tsp of agave or sweetener of choice

1 tsp cinnamon

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 tbsp cashew butter (any nut butter would work fine)

Blend and enjoy!  Tastes just like a yummy oatmeal cookie 🙂

After our breakfast we headed to the gym where I got my sweat on during spin, then a PiYo class (yoga/pilates).  Felt great!  The Love Nugget was exhausted after playing for 2 hours and crashed as soon as we got home.  Which meant I had a chance to shower and make some delicious Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Banana Bread!

Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

2 cups of Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Baking mix

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup nonfat greek yogurt

1/3 cup sucanat sugar (or regular)

1 tsp vanilla

1 egg

2 mashed bananas

1/3 cup carob chips or chocolate chips

1/3 cup chopped raw walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a loaf pan with cooking spray.  Mix together all ingredients except for the baking mix, chocolate chips and walnuts.  Once they are combined, add in the Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Baking Mix.  Then fold in walnuts and chocolate chips.  Pour mixture into prepared loaf pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until lightly brown and a knife comes out clean.  Mine was done at exactly 35 minutes.  Allow to cool on a wire rack then cut and enjoy!  I was pleasantly surprised with the moistness and flavor of this bread.  Perfect combination of banana, chocolate and walnuts.

This little guy thought it was pretty good as well 🙂

The reason I thought to try out a new Gluten-free recipe was because the wonderful people over at Bob’s Red Mill sent me a package with some really neat stuff.

I’ve been toying with the idea of cutting out some gluten and trying the paleo thing but I’m not sure I want to give it all up.  I love to bake especially during the fall/winter season when fresh baked breads and cookies are super comforting and delicious!  So I was thrilled to have the chance to review a few of their gluten-free products.  The package they sent me included Hulled Hemp Seeds, Guar Gum, Gluten-Free Baking Mix and Gluten-Free all-purpose flour.

Bob’s Red Mill specializes in Whole Grain products and has an extensive Gluten-Free line of foods as well.  I’m a huge fan of their Flax Seeds, Flax Seed Meal, Almond Meal, Coconut Flour, and Hemp Seeds (in this package!).  I seriously add the hemp seeds to so many things.  Smoothies, oatmeal, roasted veggies, banana/nut butter quesadillas, eggs, etc.  They are so good!  I’m still experimenting with the Xanthum and Guar Gum but these two products work as a binding/thickening agent for a lot of gluten-free recipes.  I have used the xanthum gum to thicken up a few smoothies that I wanted to enjoy in a bowl rather than a cup.

Tropical Traditions Giveaway

I broke down and baked some cookies the other day.  I’m glad I did though because they turned out to be REALLY good.  While I didn’t manage to make them fully sugar-free… I did keep the brown sugar to a minimum 🙂 I also used one of my favorite baking additions lately.  Coconut Oil!

Cherry, Coconut and Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies (It’s a mouthful but worth it!)

1 cup old-fashioned oats

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup flaxseed meal

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/8 tsp salt

1/3 cup shredded unsweetened coconut

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1/3 cup coconut oil

1/4 cup applesauce

1 tsp vanilla

1/3 cup chopped dried cherries

1/3 cup dark chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a large bowl, sift together flour, oats, flaxseed meal baking soda, salt and coconut.  In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, egg, applesauce and vanilla.  Add coconut oil to that mixture and stir well.  Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients then stir in cherries and chocolate chips.  Drop onto a parchment lined baking sheet and pop into the oven for 12-15 minutes.

Artisana Nut Butters

I am super excited for tomorrows Color Run with the hubby and a few of my SS friends.  I’ve heard it’s a great event so I can’t wait!  While we are off running and getting painted, the Love Nugget will be home hanging out with his Grandpa and Grandma.  They will be coming down from Orland, about 2 hours away, to spend the day with him.  We might go check out a few local wineries with them tomorrow afternoon then we don’t have much planned for the rest of the weekend.  I’d like to paint our guest room so maybe Sunday?

Today we’ve hung out around the house mostly.  Besides our run and walk this morning, we haven’t really done too much.  I’m trying to get some meal planning for the week and next weekend done so we can have that all set to go.

This morning, the love nugget had a repeat of his favorite breakfast lately.

Oatmeal Smash

1/4 cup uncooked old fashioned oats

1 tbsp greek yogurt (I like Fage best, it’s super thick)

1 tsp chia seeds

1 tbsp mashed blackberries, strawberries, blueberries etc.

Mash all ingredients together to form a thick oatmeal/yogurt paste.  Let your little one enjoy!  I like this meal because it combines a little bit of everything into a finger friendly meal.  The Love Nugget hasn’t perfected the spoon yet but loves to feed himself so this works out perfectly!

Plus, he LOVES it!

I would actually eat it too, it’s pretty tasty and healthy!

Instead of an oatmeal smash, I had a yummy smoothie in a bowl topped with granola and coconut butter from this wonderful company called Artisana.

The other day I received a package from them full of some delicious and new to me butters.


The package included a full jar of Macadamia Butter, a full jar of Coconut Butter, and sample size packets of Cashew Butter, Coconut Oil, Coconut Butter, Almond Butter, Cocoa Bliss (chocolate coconut butter), Walnut Butter, Cashew Butter, Pecan Butter, and Macadamia Butter.

Ummm…. yum!

I’d heard of spooning coconut butter over smoothies and had been dying to try so I was super excited to receive this box of goodies.

Artisana is an organic company that specializes in raw organic nut butter but they have some fun other products as well.  With the increase in nut butters lately, the competition has definitely stepped up.  So what makes Artisana different?

Hemp Seeds

I have fallen in love with these nutty little seeds.  They are so incredibly healthy for you too!

Hemp seeds come from the plant Cannibus L. The hemp plant is not the same as the marijuana plant (Cannibus sativa L.). They are closely related –but not the same thing.

Why are hemp seeds so wonderful?

  • Hemp is and AMAZING source of plant protein!They contain about 36.6% (complete) protein, making them the highest source of plant protein out there!
  • It’s the highest plant source of essential fatty acids. Hemp Seed is a direct source of GLA (Gamma-linolenic acid/ Omega-6 fatty acid), Sterodonic Acid and Chlorophyll (flax seed lacks all 3 of these)
  • Hemp contains all 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids that our bodies can not produce
  • Hemp is one of the most nutritionally complete food sources in the world!


I love adding mine to green smoothies, putting them in my oatmeal, topping salads with them and adding them to Protein bites or granola bars.

I find them at Whole Foods but with their fast growing popularity they are becoming easier to find at your local grocery store.  I found them the other day at Raleys 🙂

A Healthy Surprise!

So a few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised to be offered a Healthy Surprise box full of wonderful goodies!

When it arrived within just a few days I was happily surprised!  Like I’ve said before, I love getting packages!

First, let me start with the basics.  Healthy Surprise is a wonderful company that takes the work out of finding new healthy snacks for you.  You join based on your needs and every month get a box full of yummy vegan, gluten-free all natural snacks.

They offer a variety of subscription plans based on your family size.


Healthy Surprise sent me the “healthy” sized box which was filled with all sorts of goodies 🙂

I was pleasantly surprised as I had been wanting to try several of the products that I received.

Plus, it came just at the right time!  We are taking off on vacation soon and I always stockpile our bags with healthy snacks.  When we vacationed in Europe a few years ago, I learned the necessity of having some of your own snacks when you aren’t accustomed to their cuisine 🙂  Not that I’m not adventurous or anything, I’m all for trying new things but we half survived on protein bars and trail mix while in Barcelona.

Back to the goodies in my box…

There were sweet snacks and savory snacks.

All of which were all natural, gluten-free and vegan.  The hubby and I busted into those mini crunchy vanilla cookies the night we got our package and they were very tasty!   Only 130 calories per package!

I was most excited about the Flax Snax that I had been dying to try.

While the pizza flavor wasn’t exactly top of my list of flavors to sample, they turned out to be really tasty!  Bonus that they are really healthy for you too!

The Love Nugget and I were both excited about the Apple Chips.  Costco sells a very large bag of these same chips but I have been putting off purchasing them in fear that we wouldnt’ like them and we would have an extra large bag of apple chips just wasting away.  Although I’m sure the Love Nugget would have eaten them regardless.  He’s such a garbage disposal!  While I’m more of a fan of the Fuji apple chips because they are just a tad bit sweeter, these are really good too!  Guess I’ll be splurging on that extra large bag at some point 🙂

All in all, the Healthy Surprise package was just that, a healthy surprise!  I was very pleased with the products they chose to ship us and their nutrition values.  If I were to join their program, I would probably just go with the Starter plan since it’s only the hubby, the Love Nugget and I.  Plus, the hubby isn’t as into all these healthy snack options like I am.  Although he did love the apple chips as well 🙂

It is a great way to sample lots of different healthy products especially if you are on a gluten-free or vegan diet.  While we live close enough to a Whole Foods to find most of these products, I understand that they aren’t as easily accessible to everyone so this is a great way to get your healthy snacks!

Hi friends!

Another awesome package arrived at our door the other day!  Fun stuff!

The folks at Hail Merry sent me a few samples of their yummy products.

I love enjoying treats that are both delicious and healthy at the same time.

Hail Merry treats are raw, vegan and gluten-free.  Made with no refined sugars or added oils.  Ummm…yum!

I could barely wait to rip open the Blonde Coconut Macaroons.

Only 6 ingredients and sweetened with maple syrup I was sure that these would be delicious.

I managed to wait until the hubby came downstairs to pop one into my mouth as well as his and we both agreed they were really good!

I should have stopped there but since these were so good I figured I had better taste the Vanilla Maple Almonds as well.

I was a little more hesitant on this Hail Merry treat just because most Vanilla flavored almonds I’ve had in the past tend to have a sugary coating to them that I’m not really a fan of.

Boy was I wrong!  These are seriously the best vanilla flavored almonds I’ve ever had!  The perfect amount of vanilla and sweetness without the thick coating.  Hail Merry soaks her almonds before dehydrating them at low temperatures so they are perfectly toasted with a light vanilla sweetness.  So good!

Luckily, these generous folks also sent me some coupons so I could go stock my cupboard with some more of her tasty snacks.

I’m looking forward to trying their Cherry Almond Hemp Grawnola, Chocolate Almond Butter Miracle Tart, and the Chocolate Macaroons.  Well… I’d be happy to try them all!

Good morning!

It feels so good to wake up in our own bed!  While we were away, the love nugget was waking up between 5:30 and 6:00!  Much earlier than his 6:30-7:00 normal wake up time.  Today he was back on track so I think he was happy to be back in his bed too 🙂

It also feels good to get back on the green smoothie train!  I couldn’t wait to blend up some green goodness this morning.  In today’s mix was frozen banana, frozen peaches, frozen mangoes, a scoop of vanilla protein powder, a tbsp chia seeds, spinach, a large spoonful of cottage cheese and almond milk.  Yum!

In our mailbox yesterday was a package for me!

I love getting packages in the mail and this one was filled with some fun goodies.

There are three different options as far as memberships.

1 year for just $16 a box, 3 months for $17 a box or 1 month for $18 a box.  It’s free shipping and you can preview what’s in the box before it ships allowing you to opt out of that months box.  Once you’re a member you also get discounts on other health and fitness products as well.  I think it’s a pretty neat way to try out some new products for a reasonable price.

Since it is going to be a very hot one today, we went for our run early rather than going to SS.  Even at 8:15 it was fairly warm and I’m glad we got it out of the way before it reaches 100!  Following my run, I grabbed the O.N.E. coconut water to rehydrate.

I’ve had this brand in the past but it’s been a while and I think I tried a flavored O.N.E which I wasn’t really a fan of.  This was the plain and it was actually pretty good!  A little sweeter than my normal Naked brand, but overall not to bad.

On today’s agenda I’m hoping to make a dent in some of the laundry we have accumulated as well as meal plan, grocery shop and possibly make a trip to the Aquatic center for some water play!
