Afterburn Clean Eating Challenge Celebration

Afterburn Clean Eating Challenge Celebration

Hi there!

Who’s ready for the weekend?  We’re almost there I can see it!  I’m ready as it’s been a long, but fun week.  The Love Nugget and I have been having fun while The Hubby has been gone but are very much anticipating his return today. We missed him greatly but were so busy we didn’t have too much time to notice he was gone.  Last night for example, we were out late partying it up at Afterburn!

Last month I led a clean eating challenge with a handful of clients from the gym.  They all worked so hard and we wanted to celebrate that hard work with a fun little celebration.

Keep Bugs Away Naturally with

Keep Bugs Away Naturally with

I’ve always joked that I have this naturally sweet blood that mosquitos and other bugs just love.  That’s because I literally get attacked by bugs when I’m outdoors.  Especially this time of year.  When the weather is warming up and there’s standing water which is breeding ground for pesky mosquitos.

Unfortunately my son got my same sweet blood because he typically gets eaten alive as well.  Not only is this a very annoying issue to have because of the actual bites, but it’s frustrating since the only way to keep them at bay is with bug sprays that have dangerous chemicals.  At least before that was an issue, but we’ve recently discovered a new, natural way to keep the bugs off.

Natural Body Care with Dragonfly Traditions

Natural Body Care with Dragonfly Traditions

This past year I’ve been focusing a lot on ridding toxins from our home.  We’ve been eating very clean and toxin free for a few years now but it’s amazing how many toxins can be transferred into your body through other products.  Hair care, cosmetics, lotions, cleaning products, air fresheners, etc.   Simple things you often think are harmful could be causing more damage than you know.

So little by little I’ve been eliminating ways we could be transferring toxins into our body.  The other day I published a post with a few of my favorite natural cleaning products and I’ll do another soon with a more in-depth look at the natural cleaning products I  use.  Today I wanted to focus on a skin care line I’ve been loving and is 100% natural, toxin, parabens, chemicals, dyes, fragrances, preservatives or fillers.

Organic Hawaiian Adventures at Kuaiwi Farm

Organic Hawaiian Adventures at Kuaiwi Farm

Of course I’m not finished with our Hawaiian adventures!  There was just too much to cover in one post and I wanted to make sure to give my most favorite adventure the spotlight that it deserved 🙂

When searching for things to do in Kona, I came across an old style organic farm outside of Kona called, Kuaiwi Farm.  It looked like something that was right up my alley so I immediately emailed the owner to see if we could schedule a tour.  Una, the owner promptly got back to me and set us up for a morning on the farm!

Kuaiwi Farm sits just outside of Kona in the town of Captain Cook.  It’s a five acre mountain side farm that grows a variety of different organic fruits, vegetables, macadamia nuts and coffee!

What’s in season?

What’s in season?

I like to try to shop for produce seasonally.  Not just because it’s good to do but because I tend to crave foods more when they are in season.  Like right now I’m LOVING apples because they are just so juice, fresh, and not to mention, everywhere!

One Minute Mayonnaise!

One Minute Mayonnaise!

I used to HATE mayonnaise.

Well to be quite honest I still don’t love it.  I probably use it a few times a month in my tuna salad or a dressing but it’s one thing my Hubby has to have in the fridge.

Like most people he eats it on sandwiches, with broccoli, on burgers etc.  I used to buy an organic one for him and he liked it okay.  However, when I tried my hand at making homemade mayo everyone agreed it was the best ever!   So I thought I’d share just how simple and quick it is to make the popular condiment.

mayo

Step one – Gather your supplies.

mayo1

A room temperature 1 egg, 1 tsp. dijon mustard (with no sugar), 1/2 a lemon, 1/4 tsp. sea salt and 1 cup of avocado oil.  You can also use walnut oil, macadamia oil or a light olive oil.  An immersion blender will be used in this recipe but you can also use a high speed blender. You have to drizzle the oil in slowly so it will take much longer.

Step 2 – Place all your ingredients into a mason jar.

mayo2

Step 3 – Stick the immersion blender into the jar and blend at the highest speed.

mayo5

Lift the immersion blender up and down while mixing a few times and watch as the emulsification occurs!

In less than a minute you’ll have homemade, non-GMO, Organic if you choose, mayo!

mayo8

Store it in the fridge for up to a week and use on sandwiches, in dressings, salads, etc.!

QUESTIONS –

  • Mayo, yay or nay?
  • Have you made mayo before?
  • What’s a food you used to dislike until you made it yourself?

Paleo Friendly Finds at Costco

Paleo Friendly Finds at Costco

Yesterday I was supposed to go meet my mom to pick up The Love Nugget.  However, he decided he really wanted to stay another day to play with his cousins and since he doesn’t get to see them that often I agreed.  I miss him but am so glad that he is having a fun time with his Grammie and cousins!

So I had a whole day to myself!   What to do what to do…

It’s funny I have TONS on my to-do list and lots of stuff I wanted to do but… I didn’t get it all done.  Mainly because my back was killing me.  Ugh, will it ever get better!?!  I did get a chance to make a few phone calls one of which was to a massage therapist (apt. Friday) and one to the Bowen Method.  Have you heard of it?  The Hubby went awhile back when he injured his back and said it helped a lot so I”m going to give it a try.  Fingers crossed it helps!

Other than resting I did manage to make it to the grocery store, get some food prep done, cleaned the house and organized both my and The Love Nugget’s dressers.  So that was good.

Grocery shopping meant a stop at Costco where I was yet again impressed with their Paleo friendly options.

WIAW – Wholly Bites Giveaway!

WIAW – Wholly Bites Giveaway!

Wholly Moley!

It’s Wednesday already!  I’ve spent the last few days unpacking, cleaning, unpacking more and cleaning more.  A lot more.  After all the renovations our house looked like a dust bomb went off.  So lots of cleaning going on around here.  Which means I haven’t had a ton of time to cook or take pictures of  my meals.  Let alone eat full meals!  Don’t worry…  I’m still eating just not the type of meals worth photographing.

So instead of boring you with a play by play of un-pictured eats I’ll be sharing about one delicious food I’ve been munching on lately.

Alpine Ranch Grass-Fed Beef

Alpine Ranch Grass-Fed Beef

As most of you know, up until just a few months ago I didn’t eat beef.  Actually, I hadn’t eaten it since my first year in college when I learned about feed lots and processing plants.  Growing up we ate more venison and wild game as my dad was an avid hunter.  Even when we did have it, beef was never really my cup of tea.  So it wasn’t anything I ever missed or desired to eat.  That was until I became Paleo and noticed that my body was craving more protein.  More than I was getting from chicken, fish or turkey.  This was also during the time I was experiencing amenorrhea and was willing to try different things to get my cycle back.

Packing for a Paleo Road Trip

Packing for a Paleo Road Trip

As you know we just got back from a fun family vacation to Disneyland!

Rather than hop on a plane for a short, one hour flight, we decided to make it a 7 hour journey and drive.  I used to live in Southern Cali so have done the drive several times before.  While it’s not the most fun, it’s really not that bad.  Especially when you are prepared with lots of magazines, games and healthy Paleo snacks!
