Genetically Modified Food

Hey guys!  Sorry for my absence yesterday.  Tuesday was an extremely busy day and when I sat down to write my post at 9:00pm I decided I’d rather catch up on blog reading so that was what I did!  I”m trying to take a new approach to blogging and life that when I’m feeling overwhelmed in the slightest to slow down and relax.  Life goes on and it’s okay not to please EVERYONE all the time.  Which is what I used to do.  Right now I need to think about me and my health and if that entails skipping stressing over getting a post published to relax and read a few of my favorite blogs then so be it!

Anyway, I posted this awhile back but have gotten a few questions about GMO’s recently so I thought  would bring it up from the archives and discuss it again.

By now most of you are more familiar with GMO’s but if not, here’s a little rundown for ya!

So you want to do the Whole30…

Happy Friday!

It doesn’t really seem like Friday though right?  I mean, even though I don’t work it seemed like yesterday was a Monday after The Hubby was off for New Years.  I’m sure it’s nice for those of you who do work and only had to do so for a few days before the weekend arrived 🙂  This is the first weekend in a long time that we aren’t going to be rushing to get stuff done around the house or hosting guests.  Don’t get me wrong, we definitely enjoyed having so many people over the past few weeks but it will be nice to just relax and enjoy some quit time.  I’m sure something will come up though 🙂  One thing on my agenda for this weekend is meal planning, grocery shopping and prepping for the week.  After a few weeks of indulging in treats, not working out as much and drinking more than normal, I’m feeling it!  So I’m looking forward to getting back on track with my clean eating ways.  I mentioned before that I’m thinking about doing the Whole30 again to support some family members who are interested in doing it. I’ve actually seen a bunch of people pinning Whole30 recipes and several friends saying they are thinking about giving it a go.  It’s definitely a great way to start the New Year and speaking from experience, well worth it!

Why I quit going nuts for nuts!

Why I quit going nuts for nuts!

Like most people in the blogsphere, I love my nut butter.

 nutseed1

Nuts in general really.  Raw, toasted, salted, roasted, candied, spiced, you name it, I love it!  I used to try to limit my nut intake because I was afraid of the high fat and calorie content.  Then I started learning that fats (particularly those in nuts) weren’t actually all that bad and began adding more of them into my diet.  However, recently I’ve been trying to pay more attention to the amount of nuts and which ones I choose to eat.

What I ate Wednesday – Epic Bars

What I ate Wednesday – Epic Bars

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

I was a slacker yesterday and didn’t get a post up.  I didn’t have anything prepared, thought I would have more time in the morning to do one and just wasn’t in the mood to sit and type yesterday.  So I skipped a day, sorry I’m not sorry 🙂

Anyway, It’s been awhile since I did an actual full day of my eats so I thought I’d join in with Jenn today for What I Ate Wednesday and share my meals from yesterday.

Peas and Crayons

If you’re saying to yourself, “I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some WIAW posts from you recently.”  You’re right.  However, I’ve been focusing on one recipe or different topics rather than an entire day of my meals.  Ever since I shared this post I’ve decided to cut back and focus on other topics for WIAW posts.  I like to join in and discuss food but I also like not worrying about taking pictures of all my meals.

Bye, Bye Cardio Junkie!

Bye, Bye Cardio Junkie!

I used to be a cardio junkie.  I would head straight to the gym after work, hop on the treadmill to run 4-6 miles, then go into a Group X class where I would jump around trying to work up even more of a sweat.  I was under the impression that I needed to sweat more to burn more and in order to sweat I had to do cardio.

Luckily for me I’ve since learned that cardio isn’t actually as crucial in health and fitness as we once thought it was.  Most of you know I experienced some women related issues recently that forced me to cut back on my exercise.  In the process of doing so, I began paying more attention to what many people are saying about the long term effects of excess cardio on the body.

Why I quite trying to name the way I eat.

Why I quite trying to name the way I eat.

So you may have noticed that I haven’t been mentioning Paleo eating as much as I was before.  There’s a few reasons really,

  1.  I haven’t been following as close to the Paleo diet as I once was.
  2. I felt like I was being a hypocrate since I didn’t eat 100% Paleo and enjoyed sharing other non-Paleo foods.
  3. I’ve quite trying to categorize or title the way I eat

Five Word Friday – Sick, Zoo, Peaches, Cookies, Winner!

Five Word Friday – Sick, Zoo, Peaches, Cookies, Winner!

Good morning and happy Friday to you all!

Since I’ve been cutting back on my fitness and experiencing a little anxiety with my decrease in exercise, I thought instead of focusing on fitness like I normally do on Friday’s, I’d do something different.  I will say that I am continuing to incorporate more active rest days along with my regular spin and circuit workouts.  If you missed why I’ve decided to cut back you can read about it here but otherwise I’m moving on for today 🙂

Flavoring your coffee

In the past I used to start by day by adding coffee creamer to my cup of joe.  You know, the really yummy ones like Creme Brulee, Cinnamon Bun, White Chocolate Raspberry.  Mmm… they were good!  I always knew it wasn’t all that healthy but I figured since it was just a little bit and it was non-dairy it wasn’t doing much harm.  Then I began to learn a little more about the creamy coffee addition I used daily.
