Kids in the Kitchen #6 – Grain, Nut, Soy and Dairy-free Heathy Bites

Kids in the Kitchen #6 – Grain, Nut, Soy and Dairy-free Heathy Bites

Hey there!

I promise I didn’t forget about Kid’s in the Kitchen.  We just haven’t done a lot of cooking together lately for some reason.  The Love Nugget is getting more into playing with legos, transformers and out in the dirt than spending time with me in the kitchen.  Sniff, sniff…  The joys of boys right!?!

However, the other day I got him to help me make a nut-free, grain-free and dairy-free snack that he could safely take with him to school.  Like most schools these days, his is a nut-free zone.  So even though we love using them in our snacks for a good source of protein and healthy fats, we have to come up with other options for school snacks.   Which is okay because I like to get creative!

So here’s our latest Kid’s in the Kitchen feature 🙂

First things first, before bringing your child into the kitchen to help, make sure your counters, etc are safe.  No knives, sharp objects, or things that they can injure themselves with.  Obviously make sure they thoroughly wash their hands and have a safe stool to stand on.  We break that last rule a little and often use one of our bar stools but would love to have one of these for our kitchen adventures some day!

Now, once your kitchen is safe and your kids are clean, apron on and ready to go, it’s time to start the fun!

5 Foods you Probably aren’t Feeding your Child but Should Be!

5 Foods you Probably aren’t Feeding your Child but Should Be!

We all want our children to be healthy and happy right!?!  We strive to teach them the right things, help them make good decisions, and feed them good food to nourish their growing bodies.  The last one is one we have the most control over.  Mainly when our kids are fairly young.  At first they can’t really verbalize what it is they want to eat or not eat.  Then as they get older, they realize that we are the ones buying the food and cooking it for them so they don’t really have a choice.  If we lay good foundation for healthy eating, hopefully they will continue to eat well as they grow and become independent enough to make their own food choices.  Fingers crossed right!?!

While their in that stage where they don’t really have much say in what gets put on their plate, it’s a good idea for us as parents to try out as many foods as we can.  Especially those that are extremely nutrient dense and beneficial for their growth/development.

Five Superfood for Kids!

Five Superfood for Kids!

Since kids can’t buy their own food, we have control over what they are eating.  If they could they’d be purchasing goldfish and chocolate milk from Costco but luckily we are in charge of their food.  Which means we have full control over the nutrients they are getting on a daily basis.  Sure they might scream and cry for crackers or cookies but ultimately we are the ones who make the decision for what goes on their plate.  So knowing what foods are going to pack the most nutrients is important.

Here’s a list of the top Superfoods to feed your little ones to ensure they are getting proper nutrients!

Munchkin Meals – Hotel Edition

Munchkin Meals – Hotel Edition

Good morning!

I feel like I just did a munchkin meals for March as this month has flown by.  Which is good for us since we’ve spent the past three weeks in hotel.  In case you missed it, we had a pipe burst in our house so are in a hotel until we have a home again.  Not the most ideal situation but it could be worse!

I will admit it has been somewhat of a challenge living in a hotel with an almost three year old.  There are definitely days where I want to pull my hair out but I just try to remember that the situation is just as frustrating for him as it is for us.  In all honesty, we are pretty lucky we have the easy going kid we do.  Yes, he’s high energy and yes he likes to be entertained but he’s really has been such a trooper through all this.

Even when it comes to meals.   Which luckily we’ve been able to keep as close to normal as possible since we have a kitchen in our hotel room.

So for this edition of Munchkin Meals with Brittany I’ll be sharing The Love Nugget’s eats from a day of hotel living.

Munchkin Meals at 33 months

Munchkin Meals at 33 months

It’s funny as I wrote this post I thought back to the days when I referred to The Love Nugget’s age in months.  “He’s 8 months, 11 months, 14 months.’  I think it was before he turned two that I just started saying he was two.  I got tired of trying to remember the months.  It would be silly if we went around saying the months of our children for much longer than the first few years.  “How old is your son?”  “Oh he’s 45 months.”  I’m not mathematical so you can bet I’d be sitting there for awhile trying to figure out the actual age in my head.  Glad we don’t do that!

Anyway, as you can see from the title of this post I’m here today to join Brittany and share some of what my little man is eating at 33 months.  That’s almost 3 years old for those trying to calculate it 🙂

Munchkin Meals – Love Nugget Eats at 2 1/2

Good morning!

At the end of this month The Love Nugget is going to be 2 1/2!  Before we know it, he’ll be turning 3!  It’s so crazy how fast time flies when you have kids.  I know everyone says that but you never understand it until you have a little one growing into a big one!

As he grows, he eats more and more!  I swear the kid could eat all day long if I let him.  I can’t even imagine what our grocery bill will be like when he’s a teenager!  Yikes!

Just take a look at a day of eats for this growing boy.
