Hi friends! Hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far. Again I know it’s been awhile since I’ve stopped by to say hi but I just had to post about my recent experience with the Three Day Refresh!
As you know, we recently took a little vacay to Mexico. We had a wonderful time and while I was able to enjoy lots of fresh, organic foods and workout almost daily, I also still enjoyed some splurges.
Margaritas, chips, salsa, guacamole… How can you pass it up when you are in Mexico!?!
Anyway, before we left I had completed a month of the Whole30. I was feeling great and knew that my body might not be all to happy with me on vacation. Regardless, I enjoyed our time there and didn’t regret the indulgences I made. With that said when we returned I wasn’t feeling all that great. Bloated, sluggish, puffy, and I had a headache for over a week. I thought about doing another Whole30 but I’ll be honest, I just pure and simple did not have time. So I decided to try something new to me that I had heard rave reviews about.
The Three Day Refresh is a Beachbody program that is designed to kick-start weight loss, get a clean break from unhealthy eating habits and get back on track with healthy eating habits. I was a bit nervous to try it because I have tried a juice cleanse before but HATED it. By day two I felt SO much worse than when I started and had to throw in the towel by day three. Plus I like to actually eat foods rather than depend on drinking all my meals. Luckily the Three Day Refresh allows you multiple meals each day so I knew I’d have much better success.
So, what does it entail? Well, each day is exactly the same as far as what you’ll be eating and drinking. Basically each day goes like so;
Wake – Drink 8 – 10 ounces of water.
(I also drank my lemon and ACV at this time)
Breakfast – Within an hour of waking, drink a vegan Shakeology with 1 serving of fruit.
Mid-morning – Green Tea
Snack – Fiber Sweep. Every review said this was horrible and while it wasn’t good, it wasn’t something I’d drink for fun…
Lunch – Drink a vanilla Fresh Shake with 1 serving of fruit, 1 serving of vegetable and 1 serving of healthy fats.
Snack – 1 serving of veggies and 1 serving of healthy fats
Dinner – Drink a vanilla shake with 1 serving of vegetables and 1 serving of healthy fats.
Now onto a little more specifics about what exactly I ate and how I felt during then after.
I basically ate the same thing each day. I would start with my water, lemon and ACV then continue to drink water until breakfast time. Two days I taught the 5:30am class so didn’t get to eat within an hour but ate as soon as I got home. The guide has a serving size explanation for each fruit/veggie allowed. Some servings were very small and some were larger. I chose those that were larger so I felt like I was eating more foods. A lot of people add their fruit to their shake but I like to actually eat food for my meals so would have it on the side.
Mid Morning – I love tea as it is so drinking tea during the day was easy for me. I enjoyed a mint green-tea for a mid-morning beverage each morning.
Snack – The Vanilla refresh wasn’t great but it wasn’t all that bad either.
Lunch – By lunchtime I was hungry but not starving. Each day I had a vanilla fresh with ice, blueberries and water along with a serving of spinach and avocado.
Snack – You could have 1 serving of veggies and 1 serving of healthy fats so everyday I had carrots with almond butter 🙂
Dinner – I knew dinner was harder because I had to make food for the rest of my family. So I planned meals for them that I wouldn’t really eat anyways to help to keep me from being tempted 🙂 This made it SO much easier to enjoy my shake and veggies while they ate their dinner.
I’m sure it helped that I LOVE steamed veggies 🙂 I ate them topped with lemon juice, sea salt and a little pepper each night along with my vanilla fresh. No fruit in this meal though.
Overall I felt very full after each meal. The shakes alone would have filled me up enough to get me through to the next meal but having the fruit and veggies really helped to keep me satiated. I also drank a TON of water throughout the day and was happy I could still enjoy my favorite La Croix beverage.
The only day I struggled with was Day 1. I had only gotten a few hours of sleep because the baby was up all night and then had to teach at 5:30 am with NO COFFEE. Needless to say I was exhausted and had a raging headache. Luckily I was able to take a quick cat nap in the afternoon while the boys rested which helped quite a bit. By day 2 I felt SO much better and didn’t need the nap like day 1. Then day 3 was there before I knew it and I was feeling great! By day 4 I woke up feeling so refreshed and was shocked to see that I had lost 6.5 pounds and 4.5 inches!!!! My headache was finally completely gone and all the bloat/puffiness I had was gone as well.
The best part was the change in my cravings. I thought for sure I’d wake up wanting a big breakfast with eggs, maybe pancakes, bacon etc. However, all I wanted was a smoothie! Same for lunch and dinner. My cravings for sugar have continued to stay away and while I did gain back a little bit of water weight after a weekend of wine tasting, I’m still down 4 pounds and feeling amazing! I highly recommend this cleanse to anyone needing a little kickstart into gear. If you’re at all interested in learning more, send me a message and I’ll get you over some info 🙂
