Summer Reading with Disney Story Central!

Summer Reading with Disney Story Central!

Summer’s here get hot and even though we are barely into June we’re already experiencing temperatures over 100 degrees!  It’s pretty miserable especially when we’re also in a drought and can’t head outdoors to play in water to cool off.  So with an active four year old I’m having to find fun things to do indoors to keep him entertained.  I try to keep him busy with painting, playing with playdough, building indoor forts, reading books, dancing to music etc.  Like a normal 4 year old these days though he really enjoys watching T.V. or playing on an iPad.  Since we limit his technology time we try to make sure we don’t over do it with this.  When he does get technology time, we try to make sure that it’s learning centered.

Lately we’ve been enjoying allowing him to read interactive books on Disney Story Central.

It’s an awesome website and app that offers a huge collection of Disney Stories available for interactive reading.

It’s designed to encourage kids to develop a love of reading which is so important for myself and many other parents today.  Especially when all kids want to do is use technology.  This combines technology and reading in an interactive way that parents can happily watch their children enjoy.

Here are a few of the key features of Disney Story Central that I’ve found to be pretty cool!

  • Customizable bookshelves for each member of the family with personalized reading recommendations.
  • A “Browse By Character” carousel lets families easily find books starring their favorite character. spanning all Disney Franchises, including Disney Princess, Disney Classics, Frozen, Doc McStuffins, Cars, and more.
  • Personalized book recommendations and character-driven navigation make it easy to find new books.
  • Stars, Ranks, and Trophies reward kids for reading and encourage them to keep it up.
  • A variety of content for pre-readers, speed readers, and everyone in-between.
  • Accessible at home or on the go.

What I really love about it is that you can choose to have the story read to them then read it again without the words read aloud.  This way early readers can begin to familiarize themselves with new words by first hearing then following along.  More advanced readers can choose to skip the read aloud selection and read the story on their own while clicking through the pages.

My little Love Nugget has always been a fan of reading and he is obsessed with being able to use the iPad or my phone.  So he LOVES reading Disney stories via the Disney Story Central App.

Which is just one way kids can access Disney Story Central.  It’s available via iPhone, iPad, video on Demand (AT&T U-Verse) and tablet-optimized website.  You can access the app through their website here, or through iTunes here.

There are currently a few options to choose from for your reading experience.

  • The subscription service gives kids unlimited access to Disney Story Central’s expansive library of books for $7.99 a month.

A La Carte

  • The Disney Book Token system helps parents empower their kids to pick out the books they WANT to read, allowing them to build their own collection of stories, featuring the characters they love.
  • Tokens work like currency, in which one token is worth one book and are used to download books

Disney Story Central will definitely be a life saver this summer on those HOT days and we’ve run out of things to do indoors!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
