Sizzlefish Tacos with Strawberry Jicama Salsa

Phew!  Thank goodness it’s the weekend!  It’s definitely been a long one for us.  Between signing up, then beginning a certification program to personal train and teach classes (more on that to come), a very draining doctors appointment and our dog getting sprayed by a skunk then rolling around on our carpet… I’m exhausted!


That last one is still killing me.  Any tips to get the smell out of your house?  I’ve tried shampooing carpets, candles, room spray, and boiling apple juice, apples, cloves, and cinnamon.  It’s still there 🙁

Anyway, I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to have NOTHING planned this weekend.  Besides maybe some family fun we will be relaxing and keeping it low key.  Just what we all need after a few months of go, go, go!

Today we might go check out the farmers market or head to Apple Hill for some outdoor fun but before I do I just wanted to pop in and share a little about a wonderful company I recently got to try.


It’s awesome! We love fish but have a hard time buying it in the store. So when I heard about Sizzlefish, a company that delivers pure, untreated fish in individually packaged portions straight to your door! MOST their fish is wild caught with the exception of the Atlantic Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Catfish. I always check my fish sources on the Monteray Bay Aquarium Fish Watch and unfortunately Farmed Atlantic Salmon is on the avoid list but farmed Rainbow Trout and Catfish are both on better to eat farmed than wild.

Sizzlefish does have a few different options to choose from when it comes to ordering. One of those being a Wild Ocean Blend which is probably what I would order in the future. They also have an Omega-3 Blast, a Light-Eating Protein package as well as many other options.

We received a mixed box to try out which two individual packages of Trout, Catish, Coho Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, Cod, Sablefish, and Haddock.


I love that they were individually wrapped for when I was in the mood for fish at lunch or just needed a filet for The Love Nugget.  They were easy to pull out and defrost for a quick meal.


Fish tacos are always a go-to meal in our house when we want something quick and easy.  Plus, The Love Nugget gobbles them up!

The other night I made a yummy fish taco recipe using a combination of the cod and catfish.

Fish Tacos with Strawberry Jicama Salsa

Fish Tacos with Strawberry Jicama Salsa


  • 2-4 fillets of cod or catfish
  • 1 small zucchini or summer squash
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1/2 small onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder (more if desired)
  • salt and pepper to flavor
  • Juice from one lime
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil


  1. Wash and chop vegetables then set aside.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Add bell pepper and onions to the pan.
  4. Sautee for 5 minute or until softened.
  5. Add in garlic, zucchini, seasonings and lime juice.
  6. Cook until the fish is flaky and cooked through.
  7. Serve over tortillas topped with Strawberry Jicama Salsa
  8. Strawberry Jicama Salsa
  9. 4-5 strawberries
  10. 1/2 small jicama
  11. 2 tbsp. finely chopped red onion
  12. 1 finely chopped garlic clove
  13. 1 tbsp. finely chopped jalapeño
  14. 2 tbsp. chopped cilantro
  15. Juice from 1 lime
  16. Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate until ready to eat.

Super easy to throw together and what really made it perfect was the Strawberry Jicama Salsa that we topped them with. Yum!
