Good morning and happy Monday!
I’m sure some of you aren’t too happy to be back at work but at least it’s just a few days until New Years which hopefully brings another day off 🙂
We will be hosting a little get together at our house on New Years Eve. By little I mean over 20 adults and 12 kids. Should be fun! So today we’re cleaning, tomorrow I’m cooking and getting ready for the festivities. Feels like we’ve been cleaning then re-cleaning for over a week now since we’ve had so many people in and out since Christmas Eve. Well worth it though!
Since today is Monday and a marvelous one at that, I’m joining Katie and her Diva party for Marvelous in my Monday!
First things first. I know I’ve mentioned sharing some before and after pictures of the house here on the blog and have been slacking at getting them up. We actually didn’t even snap any photos until Christmas Eve since we were hard at work up until that day. There are a few things we still need to do but for the most part, we are very happy with the results 🙂
The kitchen was obviously the main job. The Hubby did most of the work with the exception of painting and installing the granite. He did install the fridge, sink, appliances, and flooring though! With a little help from me 🙂
In the family room we tore out the carpet, then had the walls, ceiling and fireplace painted. Eventually we’ll get a small table for the open area but for now it’s housing The Love Nugget’s toys. Even though he has a play room…
The dining room and living room didn’t have much work to be done. Removed the carpet and put in new floors, painted and got a few new pieces of furniture. I’ll share more about later 🙂
It’s been a job for sure but definitely well worth it! I’m so thankful to have such a handy husband who worked so hard at creating a beautiful and comfortable home for us to live in.
Besides the marvelousness of enjoying our new home this past weekend. We’ve had some other fun as well.
My cousin and I enjoyed a nice girls day visiting a few local wineries.
There are a ton of great wineries and vineyards so close to us now! I’ve been to a few in the area but was surprised to see how many more have recently popped up. The Placer County Wine Trail now has over 20 wineries and tasting rooms and are serving up some delicious wines! Our first stop was Lone Buffalo where we were so busy chatting it up with the owner and wine maker, Phil, that I forgot to snap any photos. He was so welcoming, friendly, and informative which really added to the whole wine tasting experience. Even without his hospitality we would have still had a great experience since the wine was amazing! We’ll definitely making a trip back here again soon!
Our next stop was a winery in the heart of Old Auburn called Bonitata that is housed in an old winery building that was built in 1974. We were really hoping to have a great experience but unfortunately we did not. From the moment we walked in we felt uncomfortable. The server was anything but friendly and actually made several comments which made us feel extremely unwelcome. I’m all about giving people the benefit of the doubt so we stayed trying to get him to warm up a little. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. I think that the wine had the potential to be good but he gave us such small pours that we barely had a chance to get a full sip. Not only that, but it was so cold in the room that I had a hard time drinking between my chattering teeth. He mentioned he had heaters but didn’t want to turn them on to save money. Needless to say we won’t be returning to Bonitata Boutique again 🙁
Or final stop was at a much more welcoming winery called Casque.
We were immediately warmly welcomed and felt much more comfortable. The newer wine tasting room is located on the same grounds as the Loomis Flower Farm which lent a gorgeous view for our tasting experience. The view, the hospitality, and of course, the delicious wine made for a great end to our day!
Later that evening myself, The Hubby, The Love Nugget, My cousin, her BF, my brother and SIL went out for sushi at Mikuni.
We shared a large sampler platter and it was delicious! I had definitely been craving sushi so this hit the spot!
Saturday my father-in-law and his wife came down to celebrate Christmas. The Love Nugget was so excited when they arrived with a new balance bike!
We enjoyed some mimosas and a small brunch before my MIL and I headed to downtown Lincoln to browse around while the boys got some work done.
We stumbled upon another winery and was again warmly welcomed with delicious wine!
This one is so close to our house and I can’t wait to take The Hubby back soon!
Sunday I woke up feeling a little blah from all the wine, sugar, and food indulged in over the past few days so I whipped up this wake up workout!
It was a good one for sure!
The rest of the day we ran some errands and I planned out some meals for the week. Including a taco bar for New Years Eve! Really looking forward to celebrating with friends and keeping my fingers crossed we don’t have a repeat of last year 🙁
Before I go, the last marvelous thing for today is the Mother’s Organic Therapy Winner!
Congrats Bri! You’re the lucky winner of the Gift pack! I’ll message you soon to get your information 🙂
Now we’re off for a busy day of running errands, meeting friends for lunch and playing!
