Toddler Tuesday – Let’s learn about the Letter A!

Good morning and happy Toddler Tuedsay!
If you’re just joining us this is a weekly link up where moms can share anything baby, toddler or kid related.  Milestones, activities, recipes, the possibilities with kids are endless!

For the past few weeks The Love Nugget has been learning all about the letter A.  Probably his favorite letter of the alphabet.  Speaking of the alphabet, this is by far his favorite song to sing lately.  Especially at the top of his lungs while we are out shopping, in the library or at a restaurant.  Anytime he sees writing on a wall, vehicle or sign he shouts, “Look mama!  ABC’s!” So learning about and practicing letters is definitely something he enjoys.

I decided to focus on one letter at a time and find some related activities to go with that letter.  Thank goodness for Pinterest because even though I spent years teaching, I often draw a blank when it comes to thinking up ideas for toddlers.   So after searching I planned out a bunch of things for us to do that revolve around the letter A and since it was September, Apples.  They just go with September right!?!

The first day, while he napped,  I printed, and cut out apples on card stock and hid them all around the house.  When he woke up he excitedly scampered around finding the apples and putting them into his basket.

Each apple had a letter of the alphabet so he thought it was so fun to find the “ABC’s!”

After that we sat down and using the white board discussed and wrote out a bunch of words that started with the letter A.

For the next few weeks pretty much daily we did something that revolved around the letter A and apples.  I planned it out on a calendar that I hung on my fridge but didn’t necessarily stick to it and did what we had time for when we were home.  Here’s some of what we did,

Letter A sticker collage using stickers found mainly at the Dollar Store.  I used my cricut to cut out the larger capital A and lower case a then cut out a bunch of sticker and let him stick away.  I also gave him a few letter A stamps to stamp as well.

Letter A collage with different types of fabric, tissue paper, and scrapbook paper.  We also stuck on some stickers of things that start with the letter A.

An Apple book found on the very creative OopseyDaisy blog.  We colored, then used a red stamp pad to put finger prints for apples on each tree.

We made apple rings using my favorite apple corer.  This was my Grandma’s so it’s super old but still does the trick and we love it!

Eating Apple snacks!

Apple Rings with sunbutter and chia seeds or “sprinkles” as we like to call them 🙂

Apple trees again from Oopsey Daisy.  Free printables then I just used red pom poms from the Dollar store and glued them on.

We made Apple Cinnamon Granola which I forgot to write down the recipe for but was really good!

Finally, my most favorite Apple craft we did was making this super cute apple print wreath!  I had purchased some white, thick and sturdy felt sheets from Hobby Lobby so we used that to make the prints.  Just red washable paint, an apple and a popsicle stick.  They dried for a day then we cut them out, and glued on a brown felt stem and green felt leaf.  Unfortunately the white glue nor craft glue worked with the felt.  So after he did a few on his own with the craft glue.  I took it upstairs and used a hot glue gun to re-d0 and finish up.  The apples were then glued onto a paper plate with the center cut out and hung up to admire!  We love it!

Now I need to get going with our letter B activities.  There was just so many great letter A things to do I want to keep going!

  6. Love all of the ideas! Keenan did apple prints at preschool, but I love the idea of making them into a wreath! I’ve been wanting to do a letter of the week or at least a letter of the month with corresponding activities for Keenan for a while, and now I’m completely inspired!
