It’s Wednesday! Which means it’s almost time for Fitbloggin! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it! (bonus points for naming that tune!)
Okay, moving on to more important things 🙂
A few weeks ago I was sent a lovely package from Simply Choices.
I’ve been enjoying lots of these Simply Choices as snacks throughout the day even though they don’t quite fit into the Paleo criteria. They are still a very healthy choice and since their gluten-free are easier on my tummy.
They are also a very sensible snack option which is why I found it fitting today to link up with Jenn at Peas and Crayons as I share with you a little more about them!
Before I get on with the goodies, let me tell you a little bit about the company. Simply Choices was started by Cathy Richards who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 12 and was on a mission to find a filling, nutritious snack that didn’t upset her stomach. What she came up with are high protein snacks that are gluten-free, vegan, kosher, all natural, and suitable for a variety of dietary needs.
While the main design feature of the Simply Bar is to avoid digestive irritants, it also packs a high amount of protein to help keep you full longer. This high protein bar packs a whopping 16 grams of protein and is great for athletes or anyone looking for a delicious, filling snack! They are also gluten-free, vegetarian and kosher.
The Simply Whey bars were definitely my favorite!
Like the Simply Bars, they are also gluten-free with low sugar but do not contain any tree nuts or soy ingredients. So for anyone suffering nut allergies this is a great choice for you! I loved all three flavors of the Whey bars but mostly enjoyed crumbling the coconut over my yogurt for a super protein packed meal. Yum!
Moving on to the protein chips. These were definitely interesting. I can honestly say I was a little hesitant on the idea of a protein chip and am actually not a huge chip fan in general. However, since each bag is packed with 15 g of protein of pea protein, are 140 calories, and only 2g of sugar and 4g of fat, I figured I better give them a try.
I started by trying the savory herb flavor and didn’t really love them. Again, I’m not a huge chip person so I think that was part of the problem. They are very flavorful and not overly salty which is always a good thing!
I decided to do something a little different with the Spicy Chili Kick flavored protein chips.
I have actually never made a chip crusted fish recipe but figured I’d give it a go using the Simply Protein chips and a few fillets of Tilapia!
- 1 bag of Simply Protein Spicy Chili chips
- 2 filets of Tilapia
- 1 egg
- 2-3 tbsp. Coconut Oil
- Rinse and pat dry the Tilapia then cut into large pieces.
- Open the chips and place them into a zip lock bag.
- Using a meat mallet, hammer or whatever will work, smash the chips until they are finely crumbled.
- Place the chip crumbles into a medium bowl big enough to dip the fish into.
- Whisk an egg in a separate bowl.
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Dip fish into egg, then chips covering completely.
- Place fish into frying pan and cook for about 3 minutes per side.
- Do not try to flip until the fish begins to turn white on the first cooked side.
- Top with a squeeze of lemon or lime and enjoy!
It turned out really good! The chips added the perfect amount of seasoning and crunchiness without too much spice. I thought about adding a sauce but I think they were actually perfect by themselves.
We enjoyed them with a side of roasted cauliflower, cabbage and carrots with olive oil and balsamic. So good!
An interesting but delicious way to enjoy these yummy Simply Protein Chips!
