First off Happy Memorial Day to you all! A huge thank you to those who have served in the past or are currently serving in the military. What you do for our country is so appreciated by us all!
Unfortunately, today is not all that marvelous for me. I was up half the night with the stomach flu and am still feeling horrible this morning. Luckily I had a post all typed up ready for another day with some things I’m loving lately that will work for today’s Marvelous in my Monday hosted by the lovely Katie at Healthy Diva Life.
First, lets talk about some beauty products,
I’ve been trying to be more careful about the chemicals I’m putting on my body as well as into my body. So I did some research on a different sunscreens, deodorant, moisturizer, shampoo and conditioner.
I’m definitely loving this Alba Botanica shampoo and conditioner,
It smells amazing and leaves my hair feeling silky smooth. Unfortunately you have to use quite a bit to get a good lather. At least in my long hair but the smell is amazing! I found it at Target but you can also find it at Amazon here or on my sidebar banner 🙂
My moisturizer and face powder both have sunscreen in them but during the summer I don’t wear a ton of make-up and since I’m outside more often I like to add some double coverage. So I purchased an Alba Botanica natural face sunscreen (the same brand as my shampoo/conditioner) and am loving it lately!
It’s not super thick and doesn’t leave a sticky residue all over your face making you look greasy. I use this in place of my moisturizer most days. I got mine here 🙂
Awhile back I read an article about how many toothpastes include dangerous ingredients such as dye’s, sulfites, and pesticides. The Love Nugget was already using a natural kids toothpaste but I quickly made the switch for The Hubby and I. I’ve tried a few different ones and some have the unpleasant baking soda flavor that I’m not a huge fan of. This Vitacare one however, does not and while it took me a few days to get used to the fruit flavor, I’m loving it!
I bought ours from Sprouts and have seen it at Whole Foods as well or you can get it on Amazon.
Okay, let’s move on to a few food items I’m loving lately. Since I eat mainly Paleo, I don’t eat a ton of processed/packaged foods. However, I do enjoy a few non-paleo foods from time to time as well as some paleoish snacks as well.
First on the list are these Plantain Chips from Trader Joe’s.
Plantain chips are a Paleo approved snack when made at home. I tried making my own but they didn’t turn out all that great. So when I found these at TJ’s I picked them up thinking they would be just okay as well. Boy was I wrong, they are delicious! Roasted instead of fried and lightly salted they are the perfect snack to dip in guacamole or by themselves 🙂
I cut out coffee creamer many months ago and had switched to Almond or coconut milk with a little Stevia. Then I did the sugar detox and completely cut out sugar as I began enjoying just adding a little coconut milk by itself.
This one from Trader Joe’s is definitely my favorite and is not only a great deal, but it’s in a BPA free can, score! I open a few cans and pour them into a jar for use in my coffees, smoothies, or whatever!
Like I said I eat Paleo 90% of the time and recently cut out most nuts which were my go-to protein snack. So in their place I needed something that was protein packed and healthy. So I started looking for a grass-fed yogurt that was low in sugar and as natural as possible. I had read great things about Siggi’s so decided to give it a try and I’m hooked!
It’s so delicious, has over 10 grams of protein, made from grass-fed cows and sweetened with just a hint of organic agave nectar. Which I’m not normally a huge fan but it’s such a small amount that I let it slide 🙂
I’ve been majorly loving bananas lately but I’m obsessed with frozen bananas.
I buy them at least once a week then cut and freeze them once they reach the perfect ripeness. I’m often reaching into the freezer to grab a slice or two for a sweet snack. Oh and topped with Coconut Maple Hemp Seed Butter… so good!
These delicious treats that could also be considered sort of paleo since they are made with paleo friendly ingredients.
They are so good!
I made some new protein bites to share with my hair dresser the other day that wouldn’t be considered paleo since they include peanut butter and oats. However, they turned out really good so I’ve been snacking on them as a little non-paleo treat.
- 6 pitted dates
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tbsp. all natural peanut butter
- 1 tbsp. organic raw honey
- 1 tbsp. melted coconut oil
- 2 tbsp. canilla protein powder
- 1/4 cup raisins
- In a food processor, pulse dates until finely chopped.
- Add in oats, walnuts, cinnamon and continue pulsing until chopped well.
- Add remaining ingredients and blend until a crumbly mixture forms.
- Roll into bite size balls and store in the fridge for up to two weeks or the freezer for up to six weeks.
I know I’m a little late to join the party but The Hubby and I have both been loving Downton Abbey lately.
We’re only on episode 4 of season 2 but are so into it! We were signed up for a trial of Amazon Prime and were streaming it from that but our trial ended and I don’t feel like paying the $90 basically just to watch Downton. Anyone know of any other ways we can catch up? Netflix?
Last, I’m really loving all the monthly healthy food delivery boxes lately. They have been popping up like crazy and I’ve had the opportunity to try out quite a few. One of the most recent that I really enjoyed was a Tasterie Box.
Tasterie is a company that was started by a mom/pediatrician to a newborn with lots of food allergies. She was frustrated with the lack of allergy safe food products available to the consumer. So she started this company with the goal of doing three main things,
1. Provide great tasting food from vendors all over the world that met rigorous allergen testing/manufacturing protocols.
2. Encourage a healthy and nutritionally balanced lifestyle for kids & adults regardless of their food allergies, intolerances or other dietary preferences.
3. Provide a service that was so easy, convenient, and delightful that it would seamlessly become a part of daily lives.
Boy do they do just that! You first have the option to choose from two main types of boxes, The Signature or the Snack box. You are then able to specify from the top 8 food allergies, which one best relates to you. From dairy allergy, dairy and soy, soy, to gluten-free, they pretty much cover them all! Once you’ve chosen your box, you then sign up to become a member for as little as $18 a month!
Now, since cutting out most gluten and dairy in my diet, I have found it much more difficult to find snacks that I can enjoy. So I found Tasterie to be a great service for myself and others who have allergies or are eliminating specific foods from their diet.
The particular box I chose was filled with gluten-free products and coupons. By far my favorite that was new to me was the Barney Almond butter. I was thrilled to see that there was coupon as well so i could go out and pick up a full size jar once my sample was gone. So good!
- What are you loving lately?
- Did you do anything fun for Memorial Day weekend?
- Have you tried Tasterie or any other monthly food membership service?
